I started in construction at the age of 25, beginning with labour work and moving into masonry within a few years. Working with established builders gave me practical exposure to different projects and site requirements. I later took up independent contracts, gradually moving from individual workmanship to managing complete construction work.
As I took on greater responsibility, I realised that practical workmanship needed to be supported by technical understanding. I trained under experienced civil engineers for several years, learning construction terminology, planning and execution directly on live sites. This practical training helped me develop a broader understanding of construction and prepared me to take on projects independently.
The work grew steadily through practical experience, client relationships and word of mouth, eventually developing into a formal business presence.
In 1991, I began taking independent contracts and gradually built my work through practical experience, client relationships and word of mouth. At a time when digital platforms were not part of the industry, most work came through personal references, visiting cards and brochures.
In 2022, the work took shape under the name Suresh Contractor Works, followed by the launch of its digital presence in early 2025. Today, SCW combines this long-standing field experience with a more structured and formal business presence, including MSME registration with the Government of India.
Over the years, I have seen how the right construction decisions can affect both the cost and long-term performance of a home.
One thing my experience has taught me is that construction should not be evaluated on price alone. Material and labour have their own costs, so homeowners should understand what is included in a quotation and compare the material, quantity, specification, labour and scope of work. A significantly lower price may look attractive, but it is important to understand how that price has been calculated. For new home construction, I also believe that warranty and post-completion responsibilities should be discussed clearly and documented before the work begins.
